Summer Time!

Ah the summer time! It's warm! It's great! Also, Summer rhymes with "Street Fighter 4" and "Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga"! Honestly, it does. If you don't believe me then you're just not saying them right.

Anyway, I bought these two games for the Xbox the other day for a tenner (a mighty fine deal if you ask me), but I'd also just bought inFamous, Battlefield 1943, Wipeout HD: Fury, the original two Fallout games and of course had just started playing Fallout 3.

This is probably the main reason I haven't been blogging as much lately. I've just had so many games to play that I didn't even wanna talk about them.

So basically, expect a ton of reviews coming your way over the next few days. Well, probably weeks.

And I'll end this review, with a bit of a controversial statement.

inFamous is clearly better than Prototype.

DISCUSS :O

Battlefield Zeroes (hah, I see what I did there)

I got the BETA key for this… hmm. A fortnight ago now? Something like that.

Anyway, I think I've played it twice and I’ve just never went back to it. It’s a shame really, because I really REALLY wanted to like it. I just… couldn’t. It seems too shallow for my liking :(

No doubt I’ll go back to it eventually though! I hope :P

Crackdown Heroes 5

Few things I wanted to chat about today.

I finished Resident Evil 5 (finally) and I can safely say it’s the best in the series. Hell I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played. Exhilarating, action packed and more of a Resi game than Resi 4 was (story wise). Absolutely incredible. Especially the ending.

I got Crackdown for cheap today as well. Haven't played much of it but what I have played I’ve enjoyed.

I’ve played a lot of the Battlefield Heroes Beta and I can safely confirm that it’s surpassed all expectations. From a technical viewpoints it’s genius. Matchmaking takes literally seconds and all the games are completely lag free. From a game play perspective… well third person is the new first person in my opinion these days and graphically this game is beautiful. The simple and colourful maps and characters make it really easy on the eyes. I’d apply for a Beta invite if I was you :)

Heathen Talk!

You  know what? I’m considering getting an Xbox… Yea I know, I talk of blasphemy but I may as well. Their not that cheap, they don’t break as much anymore and no-one can deny that the online is worth it every time! Also, it’ll be fun to play some online games with a mate of mine.

In other less hypocritical news, I finished Battlefield Bad Company last night! Cracking game. I really enjoyed it, even though I got it in September (The shame!)

Also, I got Crash Commando and the Metal Gear Solid pack for LittleBigPlanet. I’ve yet to play the latter, but the former is well good. Personally, I just can’t wait for the next Penny Arcade episode to come out. I loved that. It was brilliant. I may even go as far to say one of the best games I’ve played in a while :P

Oh, and the reason I haven't been blogging is that over the last few days I’ve been involved in SOCIAL activities! Real social activities!

I know, I’m surprised too..

Battlefield Bad Company

I love this game online. It's fantastic. I've just started playing it again, and I love it. It's one of those games where you can just sit for a few hours and play. Brilliant stuff!

It's probably just the scale of it. Like most Battlefield games, it's all about tanks, helicopters and a large number of soldier's, and because this is Bad Company, a LOT of explosions.

2009: A Good Year For Games?

So it’s the end of 2008 today, and as much as I would have loved to have done a “Best games of 2008: The Original Dungeon Keeper Awards”  I really don’t think it’s particularly necessary. If you look over my previous posts from the last three months you’ll know doubt get a clear picture of what I’ve liked and what I haven't.

What I’ve decided to do instead is to use my good friend Wikipedia to find out what games are being released next year and highlight what I think are going to be the best ones.

So the obvious one for me is Resident Evil 5. Sure it doesn't look great but it’s Resi! It never be crap, just decidedly average, and I can live with average. I own a Wii.

You know, looking at this list I’m finding a few surprises that I’m really excited about. For example, a new Mario and Luigi RPG is coming out, and I LOVED Mario and Luigi Partners In Time. It rocked. It was funny, fun to play. The first RPG I ever finished if I’m being honest with you. A new ones bound to be good, and lets face it, I never use my DS anymore.

The Sims 3 looks to be a laugh, as does Street Fighter 4. Grand Theft Auto: China Town Wars might be worth a look as well.  I loved GTA Advance.

Ah! Now, this is definatly going to be game of the year 2009. Battlefield Heroes. It might not have a release date but I bet my bottom dollar it’ll be out before the summer. Free, browser based and massively multiplayer battlefield? Oh yes please!

I hope everyone has a great new years, and you’ll be hearing from me again next year! (well… tomorrow)

Reality Sucks

“I never would have thought that “realism” meant that your ears ring when a grenade goes off but there you go!”

Get the speeder!

I love Star Wars games. Yes they have an annoying tendency to be crap but a lot of the time there great fun.

But a lot of them include the battle on Hoth from Empire Strikes Back and while many Star Wars fans no doubt love this, I hate it.

I've fought it on Battlefront and Battlefront 2. I've fought it on a game boy. I've fought it in freaking LEGO. I acknowledge the fact that it was a good idea to wrap the cables round the AT-AT walkers legs but after the 100th time it becomes mind numbingly tedious.

So today I make this claim, If I ever have to fight this battle again I'm going to demand war compensation from George Lucas because I may as well be one of the bloody rebellion. I've certainly helped them enough bloody times.

A Flawless Victory

I was playing Bad Company last night, and as I was getting decorating the wall behind me with essence of brains and my ears were filled with the piercing screech of a grenade that just went off in my face something occurred to me. The FPS genre has been perfected.

Lets go back four years ago. The FPS genre was milked like the worlds fattest cow and my God was that cow tired and barely alive. We had "Innovate" new features such as bullet time, real time weapon switching and weapon upgrading. While most of this is now the standard (apart from the hideous bullet time) it wasn't exactly executed perfectly back then.

But like all things, I believe that all this experimentation has helped craft the perfect FPS formula. COD4 is probably the perfect example of this. Unforgiving enemies, complex AI, weapons that pack a punch and breathtaking online modes. Can you honestly imagine any FPS's not using a ranking system in online for the next few years? I can't. It just works so well.

Bad Company's a good example too. Sandbox warfare, powerful weapons, vehicles. It works well because, quite frankly, DICE perfected vehicle warfare as well as a sandbox battlefield for online modes.

In my opinion, the FPS's days are numbered. But until then, were going to be playing near perfect versions of all the classics.
