Sooo....

So no blog yesterday because it was my birthday, and I was a bit busy all day.

But today, I ordered my new computer!

I'm most excited about playing Team Fortress 2 =D

This sounds like a letter from a four year old to his grandma who lives abroad.

.... New low.

Totaka's Song

I found this video the other day and got quite into it. If you get over the guy who's presenting it's initial appearance it's actually quite interesting. WATCH... Then read below.

It seems like a collection of Easter Eggs, but I'd like to think that only a few people know about it in Nintendo, never mind the world. Still, it's interesting to say the least especially considering how many games it's featured in that I own, and have never noticed.

Not that it's easy to notice.

Playstation Slim

Initial opinion:

Good lord is that a Playstation? Looks like someone sat on the damn thing and then got a five year old to redesign the logo. It has no additional features, is EXACTLY the same bar some techno - Eco friendly bullshit that means that your saving the planet but who really gives a toss and is only good for those with smaller TV stands and Sony fan boys who'll buy it regardless of the fact they own all the original models ever produced.
On second thoughts:

Well... it is... sort of... nice... looking...? Actually no, fuck it. It's still ugly, still has no PS2 playback and still costs too much :(

Although....

It does look more.... new?

Fallout 3

You know, I never did review Fallout did I? Ah well. Better now then never.

So I finished Fallout around three or four weeks ago now. In a way, I've only finished a third of what it has to give, as I've only finished it on good karma but from what I can see the game itself doesn't change that much if you're on bad or neutral karma so it doesn't matter too much.

Fallout 3, is good. In fact Fallout 3 is the best RPG I've ever played, if not one of the greatest games ever made. It's story is unparalleled, it's world completely immersive and it's combat fresh and ultimately satisfying. I had a lot of fun with Fallout, but as past readers will know, this wasn't always the case.

It took me three new games before I actually got into it, and I think that is a serious flaw on Bethesda's side. See, Fallout 3 has to be the slowest game I've ever played in terms of story and exploration. Once your hooked, this is an absolute godsend because it takes around 36 hours for an average, well rounded play through (no joke), but for fresh faced players like I was it plays like a steam train being pushed up a hill.

Still, by the end of the game you actually do come out the side with that beautiful feeling of satisfaction that you only get by playing an absolute gem of a title. Fallout's post apocalyptic DC literally smolders with life and atmosphere, to the point where you can actually spend 15 hours exploring. The feeling of survival is also one of the most intriguing aspects of the game, with city's being located within beached ships and landmark monuments becoming makeshift outposts. It's as terrifying as it is beautiful, and it is beautiful. Even the games soundtrack, a hefty selection of 1950's classics, fits the style of the game perfectly, and I haven't even begun to talk about the Vaults yet....

In conclusion, if you're wanting a game that will keep you hooked and entertained for a very long time then Fallout 3 is you're best bet. Just be prepared to fight your way through the first three hours, and you'll be fine.

I've Just Lost All Faith In The Industry

I just thought, that out there, there is a man that prides himself as being the guy who animates Lara Croft's breasts.

I mean, there are talented animator's out there... who just do boobs...

It's wrong.

Now There's A Suprise

What? It's... good? Nah, you're messing around here right? You're not? What? Seriously?

But.. it looks... what?

... I'll believe it when I see it.

Or play it.

Whatever.

Age of Conan

Last summer, right after my exams, I decided that I wanted a good MMO to play. After consulting Gontak, a fellow forum member, I decided to choose Age of Conan because of a number of reasons.

Firstly, it was Conan, which I've always had an interest in because of my Dad (who's a huge fan of the Robert E Howard books), which meant that I was already won over by the story and the locations. Secondly, it was absolutely stunning. The best looking MMO at the time. Thirdly? The combat was a lot more fun than traditional MMO's and actually required a bit of skill instead of just luck with numbers.

So anyway, off I went to purchase it and for the first few weeks loved every second I shared with it. Unfortunately, my computer didn't run it exactly... well. Whenever I entered a city it lagged like a mother bitch and sometimes just crashed altogether. Not to mention that I never even left the training island, because apparently the outside world was just a drab, quest less mess. So I laid Age of Conan to rest, convincing myself that one day it would live up to expectations. I mean after all, I had bought it just after launch day! All Mmo's suck for the first few months, don't they?

Well, after reading all the latest re-reviews I can safely say that Age of Conan looks to be everything it ws meant to be. Huge PVP battles, a load of new quests and an engine that has finally been fixed to prevent graphical lag and Game Crashes.

Now all I need is a better computer and £10 a month! .... Oh wait.

Unreal Tournament 3: Single Player

When I first got Unreal Tournament 3 on the PC the one thing I didn't even bother to try was the campaign mode. I had no intentions to ever play it either, as I had heard it was utter shite, so I just stuck with Instant action and online modes.

But when I borrowed it off a mate for the Xbox, I decided to give it a try (Mainly because I don't have Xbox Live at the moment) and so, today, me and my girlfriend decided to try and clock it.

To cut a long story short? We finished it within about six hours, and to be honest it was rather enjoyable. It was just a set list of CTF and Deathmatch games yea, but they were a good laugh to complete and a few of them where quite cleverly done.

However, one thing that irritated both me and Emma, was the story. For some very daft reason, EPIC believed that despite the fact that Unreal Tournament has never needed any sort of narrative apart from "It's a tournament in which people blow each other up for money", they decided it needed what I can only describe as a "Healthy dose of the Gears of War treatment". The result is an utterly ridiculous, fragmented mess of a story which never really goes anywhere and to be honest never even makes you care that it doesn't. The characters are like the rejects from Gears of War who weren't included because they were all too mentally retarded. The main character, a delightful chap named... something, is so irrational and demented about revenge on a woman who actually doesn't seem to have any relevance whatsoever to previous events in the game that he ends up conducting his own invasion onto an enemy planet... just so he can face her off in a few games of Capture the Flag and Death match... see where I'm coming from here?

So anyway, an enjoyable experience in co-op it was, but nothing more.

LittleBigPlanet X 4

Playing this game, with three other people in the same room, is an experience unparalleled by any other multiplayer game. I've never laughed this much in ages.

Absolutely class.

SIldent Hill 2

Ah Yahtzee you cheeky bitch, you've once again made me cry with laughter for one reason and one reason only. You're so honest. Silent Hill 2, by the way, is a cracking game.

LittleBigPlanet PSP

DO WANT.

NAO!

Looks to be an excellent adaption to it's PS3 counterpart! Bravo!

Lego Rockband DS

In an interview with the developer at Gamescom, it has been claimed that Lego Rockband on the DS is being aimed at REALLY casual gamers.

How can this thing be aimed at REALLY casual gamers??

DOES SOMEONE ELSE PLAY IT FOR YOU? DO YOU JUST WATCH FROM AFAR? DO YOU READ A BOOK AND OCCASIONALLY GLANCE AT IT?

Tuesday 18 August 2009

Sony Heaven

It's been a good day for Sony Fans.

The most reported announcement of which was of course the PS3 slim which looks like someone sat on the original and then proceeded to peel all the shininess off it in some desperate attempt to fix it...

However, it's the minor announcements that have excited me the most. BBCiPlayer on the XMB, animated themes, new LittleBigPlanet updates and many many more.

Good moves Sony! You've impressed me :)

Champions Online

If nFort is correct, the Open Beta for champions online officially begins in an hour or so.

To be honest, I'm jealous. I wanted to play this so badly, but with computer issues and the fact that you had to pay to enter the open Beta (which was like... what?) it just wasn't worth it.

Still, If I get this new computer this is the first game I'm buying for it. It just looks incredible. I mean, a revamped City of Heroes with cell shaded graphics? What's not already to love about this gem of a title?

Ayway, to all those who are playing the Beta today, have fun!

Sunday 16 August 2009

Bill Overbeck

If there's one thing I've always admired about Left 4 Dead the most it's the intense attention to detail when it comes to the survivors. And out of all of the survivors, Bill is clearly the most well imagined.

I mean come on, wouldn't you just love to have this guy as your Grandad?

Three Things

ONE I really, really want Windows 7. There's an offer with the computer I want where I can get it for a tenner with Vista (and the PC comes with Vista as standard). I don't know what it is about Windows 7, but it makes the power nerd within me scream with pleasure every time I see it.

TWO Left 4 Dead on co-op at four in the morning is a lot harder than you'd think it is.

THREE I finally beat my girlfriend in gamerscore, although I had to resort to playing Kameo in order to do it D:

Peace out.

Half Life: Hero Beggining

Why? Why have I not posted these absolute GEMS before now? These are literally some of the funniest videos EVER made and posted on Youtube and I honestly feel shocked that I've never posted them before!

To all those who don't know, Half life: Full Life Consequences was a fan fiction story written by a nine year old kid and are were deemed so utterly ridiculous that they were remade in Gmod to entertain the masses. And entertain they did.

Here's the best one! Enjoy!

Thursday 13 August 2009

Kameo: Elements of Power

For a game that's now four years old, Rares masterpiece Kameo has a lot to still give.

Proof, that even some launch games can be decent if a developer puts a little effort into them.

Here's looking at you, developers of Red Steel....

Achievement Whore

Sometimes I find myself wondering why we all used to play games before achievements and trophies. Yea I know that sounds stupid, we clearly all used to play games for the fun and the experience, but what I mean is why did we used to play them AFTER they'd finished?

Look at it this way, I would never have played through Uncharted Drakes Fortune on hard STRAIGHT AFTER finishing it for the first time if it wasn't for the trophies and I don't think I would have ever have bothered button mashing my way to finishing Street Fighter 4 on medium without the shining 30G at the end of the tunnel.

However this isn't always the case per se, I completed Resident Evil 4 countless times just for the bragging rights. But then again, isn't that one of the main reasons why we play games?

Apart from the fun of course.

Avatar Marketplace

So the Avatar marketplace was released today... and my God. So much pointless shit. So much pointless shit that I WANT D:

I would never pay for a single bit of it, but I would love nearly all of it xD Mainly because my avatar can be dressed in COG armour wielding a lightsaber..

Win.

Nothing Specific

Got a few things to blabber on about today. Actually this post might be quite a long one.

I played UT3 on the Xbawks last night. I had to install it because when I tried to play it normally it sounded like my Xbox was trying mow a lawn or something, and considering it was two in the morning that was a bit inconvenient. Anyway, I enjoyed playing it but it's not really suited for consoles. I'm looking forward to playing it when I get my new PC though.

Also, apparently the mysterious PS3 slim has been spotted on a video somewhere! Not that I really care to be honest. I quite like how large the PS3 is at the moment. Gives it a sense of.... power. Lots of power.

I got my Uncharted back as well, so I've been forcing a friend to play it. By gunpoint. He likes it, but he hates the PS3 so it's quite amusing to watch him play it. Grimacing yet smiling. Quite an expression.

Final thought of the day? PC's are still too damn expensive. Ciao.

Sunday 9 August 2009

Trading In Games

I hate trading in games, and I'll only ever do it as a last resort. The last thing I majorly traded in was my Wii, but I did that with no regrets because I didn't even touch the damn thing, and at the end of the day? I got an Xbox out of it. So It's all good

But if someone was to say to me "Hey, Meevsy Cakes, why don't cha' trade in some of those crazy Playstation Games that you haven't played in a while? 8D" I'd grab the nearest copy of LittleBigPlanet, start to foam at the mouth and probably crawl into a corner and refuse to come out for at least a week for fear that I'll loose one of my copies. Yes, I love my games to that extreme.

In all seriousness though, I don't know why it bothers me so much. I think I just like to have them so that if I want to play them again (even if it is a few years down the line) I can just simply wander over to my shelf and pick from a wide selection.

Oh, and also, PC games don't really trade in for much these days as well =D

Saturday 8 August 2009

PSN / Xbox Marketplace Remakes

I was thinking earlier about Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix, and how much of a great remake it is. The crisp HD graphics, the incredible online experience and extremely cheap price. It's a well rounded package, and certainly worth every penny I spent on it.

Then I remembered about Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, and how that has just had the HD, online makeover and it got me thinking. Why don't more companies do this?

Think of it. It wouldn't be that difficult to mess around with the original code, surely? Sharpen the graphics, maybe re-record the soundtrack, add a few trophies/ achievements and maybe an online mode and your sorted. Everyone will buy it if it's a classic! I mean, look how successful the likes of Pacman and Worms have been! It'll be good for the developer, and for the gamer because are more likely to download them then go out in shops and buy them for full price.

So please, anyone out there, remake your old games in HD please. Especially you Naughty Dog and Insomniac. I'm literally gagging to play Spyro and Crash in HD.

Modern Warfare 2 - The Cash Cow

In a further attempt to apparently bore everyone who reads my blog with tales of how expensive things are these days, I bring you news that Activision would like to raise the already high price of it's products believing that titles such as the Call of Duty series would sell in the same high numbers "Regardless of price".

Bearing in mind that Modern Warfare 2 is already going to cost the quite alarming amount of £54.99 for the standard edition, I have only this to say:

Garry's Porn

I love Garry's Mod. Today I stumbled across a thread on a website decdicated to sex poses. It was fantastic. Dr Breen having sex with the pyro. Can you think of anything more erotic?

You can? Oh good. You're a normal person then.

Shiny New Computers = Empty Wallets

Oh hai, I'm a spoiler! Look at me, all in Red. Oooooh! *wiggles fingers* Anyway, this post is going to be rather angry, filled to the brim with white hot nerd rage! Enjoy.

It's my seventeenth birthday in a few weeks time, and I've decided not to get driving lessons because of the bloody price of the things (and because, well buses aren't all that bad really, to be honest.)

Anyway, I thought about what I wanted and I've settled on a new computer. A one that's actually mine (I share a computer. In this day and age, I share a computer!). So with my nerd hat on, I started to scour the Internets for a cheap one.

Stupidly, I started on Dell. Over a GRAND for what I wanted. ¬.¬

Then I looked on HP, and again, it was moronically expensive.

So then I found a site that did custom built ones for quite a reasonable price, and it was situated in the UK so shipping costs were pretty low. Quite happy, I had a look at the specs. Surprise surprise, no monitor.

Why! Why is it so bloody difficult? I'd build it myself If I didn't think I'd probably end up blowing myself / the computer/ or the house up. Also. WHY CAN'T YOU INCLUDE A FREAKING MONITOR!

Gah.

These Games Look Tasty!

Is it just me, or do all the latest games look very VERY good. I dunno what it is, but Bioshock 2, Modern Warfare 2 and Assasins Creed 2 all just look so polished and well made. They look like the iPhone's of the videogames world.

Just a thought!

Monday 3 August 2009

I Am Alive

I've never even heard of this, but I have now, and I'm intrigued. Looks like Disaster Day of Crisis except well made.

Sunday 2 August 2009

Don't Forget To Teabag The Radscorpion On The Way Out

So I was running along, and this giant Radscorpion decided it was fun to try and tear a hole in my back with his massive stinger of doom, and to be honest I'm not really cool with that. So I shot him about a million times in his tiny evil scorpion face and he was still coming at me like a demented member of the scorpion branch of Jehovah's witnesses so I was all like "OK BITCH EAT THIS" and I pulled out my missile launcher and blew all his limbs off.

And then I teabagged his corpse.

Then all his friends were all like "GERALD NOOOOOO" and I was like "YOU SLAGS" and I launched like a bazillion missiles and they all exploded, limbs flying everywhere like a scorpion pinata filled with entrails.

And then I teabagged his pincers.

Then I dragged his pincers into a nearby lake...

And had sex with them.

(I wonder... if someone from the BBFC reads this, will Fallout 3 get banned?)

God of War: Chains of Olympus

I've never played a God of War game before...

*cowers as a load of bottles are thrown off him*

... hang on let me finish yea? I've never played one UNTIL the other day, when I was enlightened by the PSP version.

Put it this way, five hours later I'd finished it and now I'm literally gagging for more. God of War is incredible (a fact I already knew, just not from a first hand perspective). I know it's not right me saying this, considering I've never played the legendary PS2 games, but I'm going too! Trust me on that :P

Bring on God of War 3! =D
